Roaming

How To Guide -- Mainland Roaming

Roaming provides Mobi PCS customers the ability to make and receive calls while on the mainland.

Roaming is available in all 48 contiguous mainland states (not including the state of Hawaii or Alaska) at a rate of $0.19/minute. This charge applies to any call by a Mobi PCS customer in those states making a call to any domestic location. Charges also apply to any calls coming into a Mobi PCS customer while they are roaming. (Domestic locations include all 50 states.)

Features available while roaming:

  • Placing outgoing calls
  • Receipt of all incoming calls
  • Making and receiving international calls (additional charge)
  • Voicemail (if subscribed to this option)
  • Caller ID (if subscribed to this option)
  • Usage-based directory assistance ($1+tax per DA)

Features NOT currently available while roaming:

  • Sending and receiving of text messages
  • Voicemail message indicator
  • Sending and receiving of MMS or picture messages
  • Call forwarding
  • 3-way calling (if subscribed to this option)
  • Conference calling (if subscribed to this option)
  • Unlimited Directory assistance (pay-per-call directory assistance is available)
  • Access to data such as BREW

Preparing to Roam

There is no pre-registration or additional option for roaming. All Mobi PCS subscribers on the Unlimited Talk or Unlimited Talk & Text rate plan can place roaming calls. Before traveling to the mainland, and while still in the Mobi PCS calling area, press *228 and then the SEND key and follow the instructions. This will update your roaming list with the most current Mobi PCS roaming partners. Be sure to also deposit funds into your Mobi bank.

Roaming Indicator

When on the mainland if you are within a Mobi PCS roaming partner's network you will see a roaming indicator on your phone. The roaming indicator is either a triangle or an "R" at the top of the phones main display.

Making a Roaming Call

To make a call, first press 1 and then the SEND key. This will put you into the roaming menu. From there you can choose:

  • Make a roaming call
  • Retrieve voicemail
  • Get Mobi bank balance or deposit money into Mobi bank
  • Call Customer Care
  • Hear a description of how to make a call while roaming

In the IVR menu follow the prompts to make a roaming call. Dial the phone number the way you would as if you were in the Mobi PCS network and then the # key. For instance:

  • for calls to Oahu dial the seven digit phone number + #
  • for domestic calls outside of Oahu, but within the continental U.S., dial the 10 digit phone number + #
  • for international calls dial 011+country code + phone number + #
  • for directory assistance dial 411 + #

International Calling

International calling is also available. The rate will be $0.19/minute + the international long distance rate. (for example, a Mobi PCS roamer in California who calls to a wireline phone in Japan will be debited the following: $0.19 per minute for the roaming charge + .07 per minute for calling Japan = .26 per minute for the call duration).

Incoming international calls are charged only the roaming fee and not the additional international rate.

Mobi Bank

The amount will be deducted from your Mobi Bank on a real time basis. When the funds in your Mobi bank get below $0.19 during a conversation, the call will immediately terminate. Trying to initiate a call with less than $0.19 will take you immediately to the IVR prompt where you can use your credit card to deposit more money in your Mobi bank.

Customer Care

To get assistance while you are traveling, follow the prompts to the IVR selection or from a landline call 808-723-1111. *611 can not be used while roaming. There is no charge for calling Customer Care.

Directory Assistance

To call directory assistance, follow the IVR prompt to make a roaming call. Dial 4-1-1-#. All calls to 411 will be debited $0.19 per minute + $1+ tax. You will be connected to the requested number and will be charged $0.19 per minute. Unlimited Directory Assistance feature is not available while roaming.

Incoming Calls

If you are roaming outside of Oahu and receive a call, you will be charged the "per minute" roaming fee if you answer your phone. There is no charge if an incoming call is unanswered or goes to voice mail.

If you receive a call from an international location you will be charged just the roaming fee. There is no additional international rate charge.

Call Forwarding

Call forwarding is not available while roaming.

3-way calling and conference calling

3-way calling and conference calling are not available while roaming.

Voicemail

If you do not answer an incoming call it will go to voicemail. The voicemail indicator will not indicate that you have a voicemail waiting. However, you will receive a missed call indication. To listen to the voice mail, follow the IVR prompt. You will be charged the per-minute roaming fee while checking your voicemail. If your phone is turned off or not answered you will not be charged for the incoming call going to voicemail. If there is inadequate funds in your Mobi bank to allow an incoming call it will go directly to voicemail.

Text Messaging

You will not be able to send or receive text messages while roaming.

911

At any time while roaming you can dial 911 for emergency services. You do not have to dial 1 and then SEND first. You will be connected with a local agency for assistance. There is no charge on a 911 call.

Roaming onto non-Mobi PCS roaming partners

There are some areas on the mainland that Mobi PCS does not have a roaming partner. If you hear a notification that you have reached a network that requires a credit card or prepaid card this is not part of the Mobi PCS roaming partner network. If you wish to continue to make that call you will have to supply the credit card or prepaid card. Roaming fees for these are not deducted from your Mobi bank.
