Mobi PCS Announces Jan. 3 Service Launch and Makes Ceremonial First Call at Pearlridge Store Blessing

Newest Island Wireless Network Will Be Hawaii's Only to Offer Unlimited Calling for Under $50

December 07, 2005 Honolulu, HI — Mobi PCS, Hawaii's first and only wireless carrier offering unlimited calling plans has announced it will launch commercial service on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006.

In a ceremony celebrating the introduction of Mobi's low-cost, no-counting-minutes, wireless plans, Lt. Governor James "Duke" Aiona will make the ceremonial first call on Hawaii's newest wireless network. The event will take place at Mobi's Pearlridge Center store on Thursday, Dec. 8, immediately following the 9:45 a.m. store blessing officiated by Rev. Kordell Kekoa.

"We will offer the people of Hawaii a much simpler and more affordable alternative to traditional wireless service," said Bill Jarvis, president and CEO of Mobi PCS. "Mobi PCS is changing the rules of the wireless game in the islands. The resulting enthusiasm has been overwhelming, and we are thrilled to launch our service."

During the ceremonial first call, Lt. Governor Aiona will speak with Mobi PCS Vice President and Chief Technical Officer Ed Kurzenski, who has overseen the fastest network build in Hawaii history.

Mobi PCS will launch with voice service, utilizing advanced 3G-capable CDMA technology that will pave the way for a variety of wireless broadband offerings in the near future. The network utilizes cutting-edge technology - including Nortel packet-switching and IP-enabled base stations - that will be deployed for the very first time in Hawaii.
